The Underground Railroad in Vermont |

|
Joseph Poland home, Montpelier Revisionist historians have attempted to rewrite the history of the Underground Railroad as it was portrayed by Wilbur Siebert in his book, Vermont's Underground Railroad and Anti-Slavery Record. Siebert's version was based mainly on correspondence he received from individuals who in old age were recollecting the events, or later from individuals who were family members or friends who learned of the stories through oral tradition. I have addressed the issue in an as yet unpublished article that Vermont History refused to publish unless I made some changes that would be less critical of an article that appeared in their journal in 2001. You can download the pdf of the article at the following link: VermontUGRR.
