Brookline, Massachusetts

Upstate New York

A number of residents of this Boston suburb were members of the Boston Vigilance Committee of Underground Railroad lore, most notably Henry Bowditch, Samuel Philbrick, and Ellis Gray Loring, the mentor of the first important black lawyer in America, Robert Morris, who also was a member of the Committee.
